About Renee Simone

The Jamaican heritage, UK born songbird is described by legendary blues artist Eric Bibb as “Reminiscent of an early Sade”

Miss Renee Simone formed and fronted Byron Bay band The Blackbirds in 2010. The band spent the next two years securing gigs at some of the country’s top music festivals including Splendour in the Grass, Bluesfest, Mullum Music Festival, Bellingen Global Festival and Reggaefest.

Miss Renee sang backing vocals on Xavier Rudd’s 2010 Koonyum Sun album. In 2012 she was invited to record with Angus Stone, who compared her voice to “layers of tiramisu topped with smooth chocolate sauce.”

In late 2012, Miss Renee stepped out as a solo artist and in January 2013 launched her debut album, ROAR, in honor of powerful, empowered and accomplished women.

“I drew inspiration from hundreds of women from all generations the world over who shared their stories of empowerment and disempowerment with me over a period of 12 months as I wrote the album. Women who have faced extreme adversity and risen to the challenge. Women who are still working it out. Women who refuse to give up.”

Miss Renee’s music is largely influenced by the divas of soul and jazz – Josephine Baker, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone - as well as contemporary artists Neneh Cherry, Lauryn Hill, Sade, Erykah Badu, Morcheeba, Massive Attack and Portishead.

A Miss Renee Simone show is a shared experience, an intimate encounter between everyone in the room. Think cocktails, warm orange sunsets, hammocks, waves lapping around your feet and super chilled, tasty vibes. She radiates soul, decadence, charm, elegance and fun. An experience you will walk away wholly warmed by.

Don’t miss your chance to get up close and personal with Australia’s brightest new voice in soul jazz.

"Adelaide Fringe Festival was a huge success! Thank you so much to all of you who came to the shows at Adelaide Fringe Festival 2013, we had an absolute ball and the reviews were so beautiful that we are already planning our next trip. See you in May Radalaide! xxx"

MRS fever is organically spilling out into the community where other women are approaching Miss Renee with a desire to make room in their life for learning to sing and play ukulele. "This process works by itself, it naturally helps women to realise their inner strength through songwriting, story telling, and the magic of the ukulele. I’m so honoured to be able to experience it happening"
